Biotech Week 2018 was a Success!

We engaged with almost 1000 high school students in San Francisco to help create the next generation of scientists.

Five high schools across the city hosted Biotech Weeks in their biology classes in April and early May -- Leadership High School in the Outer Mission, Burton High School in the Portola District, Galileo High School in Russian Hill, Wallenberg High School in the Western Addition and Lincoln High School in the Parkside/Sunset District.

Biotech Week engaged almost 1000 students and 11 biology teachers with real-world applications in biotechnology.  Twenty researchers and leaders from the science industry along with City College biotech faculty members also visited the classrooms as part of the session.

Student participation reflected the diverse population of SFUSD:  49% female, 51% male, 45% East Asian (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Cambodian, Vietnamese), 22% Hispanic, 6% Filipino, 6% African American and 5% Caucasian.
