My name is Jack Alter. I am blessed with a full personal and professional life; including a loving wife, a talented daughter, two outrageous sons, and a huge extended family spread across the United States.
I am proud to be an 20+ year classroom veteran in the San Francisco Unified School District, teaching Photography and Art. My career has included teaching graphic arts, summer school, basic Math and English, study skills and Drivers Ed. I served as the Chair of the Practical Arts Department, consisting of 12 teachers, 1200 student contacts per day. As a 20+ year leader in the district’s graphic arts teaching community, I have developed an award winning photography program articulated with the local junior college, streamed for University of California acceptance, privileged to have placed talented students in universities across the country.
I have been married for 20+ years (yes, to the same wonderful woman) and we have three amazing kids. Our oldest, a daughter – is an honors scholarship student in a combined BS/MA program at an elite East Coast small university and now a teacher in Washington DC. Our next guy graduated high school and hit the road, having “Evan’s excellent adventures”. Our youngest, a son, is a college student, at a culinary arts college. Our family is exciting, over-the-top and a sound foundation for me.
The fun part of my life is my discovery that I can bring to life things I envision – whether its solving problems around the house or on our car – or taking this talent to school, having created a photo lab, darkroom, and multi-year program that is the envy of my colleagues across the district and competes with that of local colleges.
Wow – I love what I do in life! I come home to a loving family! I contribute to my community in and beyond the classroom – sounds great to me.
