Academic Integrity Policy

 

Cheating violates the core principle of responsible participation within our academic community by breaking down trust between all school members.  (CA Ed Code 44806: Each teacher will endeavor to impress upon the minds of the pupils the principles of morality, truth, and justice…and to teach them to avoid idleness…and falsehood.) Adopted by the ALHS community, Spring 2005.

 

    CHEATING INCLUDES, BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO:

 

Level 1 Infractions

*Copying or allowing others to copy *Plagiarizing            *Cheating on a test.

 

Level 2 Infractions (Highest level)

*Changing or altering a grade on an official document 

*Stealing tests or answer keys 

   ªStudent responsibilities- The student will:

*Support the school’s guidelines            *Set aside sufficient time to study

*Participate actively in class and attend regularly

*Learn how to attribute work properly by citation, footnote, and bibliography

*Protect work done—not lend or borrow homework

*Observe test time limits            *Not cut class on test days

*Not look at another’s test or allow his or her test to be seen

*Not talk during a test, or about the test until all classes have taken it

*Not represent as his own the work of a parent, brother, sister or anyone else

*Not change a test item in any way when the test is returned for review

*Not allow one member of a team to do the whole task

 

    CONSEQUENCES FOR LEVEL I INFRACTIONS:

 

A. First Offense

1) Zero on the assignment            2) Teacher/Student conference

3) Parent notification.                        4) Possible referral.

 

B. Second Offense as above plus

5) Parent conference                        6) 1 day suspension

7) “U” (Unsatisfactory citizenship) for current marking period 

 

C. Third Offense as above plus

8) Student will be suspended 1 to 5 days (CA Ed Code 48900)

9) “U” (Unsatisfactory citizenship) for semester  

10) Note in student’s records and affect eligibility for awards, honors, organizations and scholarships.

11) A possible grade of “F” for the class. 

 

FOR LEVEL II INFRACTIONS:

1) Student will be suspended 1 to 5 days (CA Ed Code 48900)

2) “U” (Unsatisfactory citizenship) for semester  

3) Note in student’s records and affect eligibility for awards, honors, organizations and scholarships.

4) A possible grade of “F” for the class. 

 

Parent responsibilities: The parent will:

*Support the school’s guidelines regarding academic policy

*Be aware of a student’s need for a quiet time and place to study

*Support the student’s efforts but not edit, type or in any other way do the work
